Outdoor Relaxation

Yesterday, we spent a lovely sunny afternoon lounging in the backyard.  With the exception of a strong wind, it was almost the perfect day for being outdoors.

With Texas temperatures in the mid 90's, it was a great time to drink an ice cold glass of Jamaica (pronounced Hamaica in Spanish.)  It is made from dried hibiscus flowers, and sweetened with sugar, for just the perfect refreshing drink.  These hand blown, cobalt blue glasses were purchased when we lived in Mexico, several years ago.

Even one and a half year old Chloe was enjoying the splendid weather!

What American warm weather celebration would be complete, without the obligatory hot dogs?  Turkey franks are always served here.  I like mine with Dijon mustard and lots of sauerkraut.  My daughter eats hers with ketchup and sweet relish.  Darling son prefers his with only ketchup, while hubby reaches for the sweet relish and mustard.  How do you like yours?

My lovely afternoon ended with a good read, whilst relaxing on one of our hammocks.  A perfect day, indeed!  I hope everyone enjoys their day...

  1. What a great way to spend the long Memorial Day weekend... with family! This year we tried the new Angus hot dogs. Really good! 'cept my husband toasted them on the grill a bit too long. lol
Where is Mexico did you live?? I've lived there twice.. once in Guadalajara and then in the state of Colima.

  4. That sounds heavenly. What did you read? Now I love my hot dog many ways. That's why one is never enough. A classic with catsup, mustard, and sweet relish is #1 and I love it with dijon and sauerkraut and that's #2. I've never tried your drink before but it sure looks scrumptious. Have you ever tried horchata? I tried it for the first time at my nephew's high school graduation party. Yummy!

  6. Hey Maureen! I've been wondering what you are up to over there. Looks like you had a relaxing weekend with great weather. Texas was the only place we had a wooden fence like yours so it brings back memories of our home and backyward in Spring, TX. That black bean and corn "salsa" is a favorite of mine -- wonder if you use the same recipe? Goes great with fish. I don't do "dogs" anymore -- but when I get them for the kids, I only do turkey dogs. Hope all is well. Have a great rest of the week. Tammy

How lovely to see you back again.
The picnic looks wonderful and so glad that you were able to have a lovely day.
Relaxing in the hammock with a good book must have been great.

  10. That meal looks delicious, and your photos are worthy of a magazine. (I will eat a hot dog pretty much any way, including with celery seed sprinkled on it, which I first saw when I lived in New England.)
