..."How Does Your Garden Grow?"

I am certainly not one blessed with a green thumb, however for years I have wanted to grow herbs and vegetables in my garden.  So this Spring, I was thrilled to start that process.  Darling hubby, made two raised garden boxes made of cedar, and measuring 8' x 3'.  We planted lots of different herbs and veggies.  Above is chocolate mint, lemon thyme, garlic chives, hot peppers, sage, and petite bell pepper.  The other raised box contains green and yellow bell peppers, eggplant, cilantro, regular mint, cilantro, and parsley.

This potted sage bush is almost ready to be replanted into the soil.  It will grow really large here in the Texas heat.

Our tomatoes are growing like weeds.  Incredibly they seem to almost grow at least a half an inch a day.
I feel like a kid in a candy store, admiring all before me. :)

Another fast grower, is the basil.  I'm scrabbling to buy jars, to store all the pesto I hope to make.

The sun is looking down upon the hanging pot of a Bolivian Jew.

Also thriving is one of our three hanging pots of Wandering Jews.

My love of limes and lemons prompted us to plant a Persian Lime tree (left) and a Meyer Lime (right.)  A Mexican Key Lime tree (not shown) is planted to the right of this photo.

Whilst browsing online gardening catalogs, I came upon this West Hyland Terrier garden statue at Plough & Hearth.

Wouldn't that statue make a fine companion for our sweet Chloe?  I think it will be put on my birthday wish list!  :)

  1. Gardens are hard work, but they are so worth it. We have been slammed with rain...we usually have our gardens out at the beginning of May, but we weren't able to get ours out until this weekend. Can't wait to start reaping!

  2. You can freeze pesto in ice cube trays - when it is frozen put the cubes in a zipper bag and take out what you need when you are cooking.

  6. Hi Maureen,

Your garden is looking wonderful and isn't it great to have fresh herbs that you can pick so easily.
Here it is coming on winter and so nothing much is doing in the garden. We have some herbs, tomatoes did poorly ( we had two green ones that did not come to anything, so doing something wrong?
My camellia bushes will soon be flowering so that will be nice.

    Happy Wednesday
    Hugs

  7. Hey Maureen, two posts in one week. Yea! Our internet is giving me fits and time has not been on my side this week. Weather has taken a turn for the worse with orange sand moving in. Ugh! Thank goodness it is the weekend. But hubby has made plans for us tonite and tomorrow. Doesn't he know I like pajama days? Your garden looks great. My tomatoes didn't do well this year at all. So nice to just walk outside and pick a little something to add to your meals or tea. :) Hope you are having a great day. Tammy

  8. We just got our herbs and tomatoes planted in pots on the deck. I can't do planing in the ground because the groundhogs and chipmunks have a feast. Your plants are way bigger than ours but I hope ours will do OK. I love lemon thyme and I have a recipe for Lemon Thyme Shortbread cookies that I need to dig out and make.
    I love June....long days and gardens growing-YAY!
    Have a delightful day Maureen.

  9. I do make strawberry jam. I don't actually have strawberry plants. There is an Amish produce market less than a mile from my house, so I bought my strawberries off them last year. I've still got a few jars left. I've been thinking of putting it on some vanilla ice cream...yummmm.

  13. I am SO late in getting the garden going this year, that I'm really enjoying seeing other people's gardens flourishing -- as yours is!

Watch those mint plants; they are big garden bullies and will trample everyone else if you don't watch out. We yanked up MILES of spearmint this past weekend.

Love the raised beds ... and pinch back that basil or the flowering will make it stop growing!

Enjoy your garden bounty -- Nothing like fresh from the vine tomatoes, is there?

  16. Hi Maureen,

We have finally built some raised boxes too! We grow strawberries (for our own private use) and got tired of bending over with aching backs so, this year we will happily be picking them in upright position;)
