Tuesdays with Nanny Kitty ~ Part 5

This week on "Tuesdays with Nanny Kitty," we travel back to what I believe to be the 1940's.  Unfortunately, there is no date listed on the photograph, so I'm just taking a guess based on what fashions are being worn.  Nanny Kitty is 2nd from the right, holding that huge handbag. Nanny's sister Theresa, nicknamed Tessie, is standing next to her, wearing the black hat. I'm loving all the varieties of hats, and I do have a favorite.  For me, it is the lovely hat being worn by my Aunt Tessie (3rd from right.)  Do you have a favorite?  Do tell!
I also enjoy looking at each of their facial expressions, while they wait for the photographer to take the photograph.

Sadly, I don't remember my Aunt Tessie very much, because she died from complications of diabetes, when I was a young girl.   However, the one thing I do fondly remember of her, is her choice of eye wear.  You see, in the 1960's, Aunt Tessie wore those very popular "cat eye" glasses.  I always admired those, and thought she looked very cool in them.  The above photo of Aunt Tessie was taken at a family wedding circa 1967, just a few years before she passed away.  Notice all the rice that was thrown outside the church, to wish the happy couple good luck.  Aunt Tessie is holding a whole box of "Minute Rice" here.  Don't you just love her cute "cat eye" glasses?

  1. Good morning, Maureen!

I so love your posts about your family...your Nanny and Auntie are so sweet and fashion savvy! I love those hats, too! I think my favorite is the 3rd from the left--I don't know why! And I LOVE those cat glasses! I'd wear them right now if I found the perfect pair!

What a wonderful photo with the rice in the air--perfect!

Wishing you a beautiful day, dear friend...

  3. What fun photographs - you are lucky to have such wonderful memories - and photographs of them. I love the wide brimmed hat and the cat eye glasses. I always wished I needed glasses in the 60s so I could have a pair like my girlfriend.

  5. That is a great photo. I love how they are all dressed and wow, those hats. I think your favorite would be mine too, although I am not a hat person at all. Do you know where they were, or what they were doing that day? Aunt Tessie certainly looks like she was full of life and fun. Hope you are having a good day. Tammy

  14. Wow! Where did you get that hat, where did you get that hat!

I wish we all made the effort to still dress up and wear hats now. I adore hats, not so sure that I suit tham all because I have short hair, but I enjoy buying berets in the winter months
    :-)

  15. Oh I think Nanny Kitty looks so chic with her big bag and stylish suit Maureen. It was fun to see this photo of all these pretty women posing. They do look smart. I think my favorite hat has to be the wide brimmed hat on the lady next to your aunt Tessie. But my fave shoes are on your aunt Tessie's feet. Too cute!
    hugs...
