Tuesdays with Nanny Kitty ~ Part 4

The year is 1924, and Nanny Kitty is once again with her beloved grandmother, Elizabeth Agnes Quinn Mahady.  This time, they are in a Brooklyn backyard, and Nanny Kitty is posing in her stylishly revealing bathing suit.  I love the contrast here of my Great Great Grandmother Elizabeth's choice of cover up, and Nanny Kitty's lack thereof.  I attribute that to the old adage of, older folks feeling chill in their bones, and the younger generation's desire to "bare all."  I wonder if Mary Agnes approved of Nanny Kitty's choice of bathing costume?  By the look on her face, something tells me yes!  What do you think?

In honor of this photograph, I was motivated to create a sweet tag.  I'm going to present it to my darling 10 year old daughter, Olivia.  She loves nostalgia, and anything to do with her family history.

Materials:
Paper - Cosmo Cricket's 1934 collection
Metal round number tiles from Paper Studio Spare Parts
Ice White Viva Decor Deco Pearl Pen
Various letter stickers, flower petals, & ribbon from my stash
Epiphany Crafts new scallop shaped epoxy buttons

Have a swell day!

  4. Love that photo! You are so fortunate to have it and a bit of history to go along with it. Nanny Kitty's bathing suit is about the only kind I would want to wear now. No more bikinis or baring it all for me. HA! Your tag is so sweet and I love the name Olivia -- it certainly has a note of nostalgia to it. Have a beautiful day. Tammy

  7. Hi Maureen :)
I can't tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. You are so blessed to have so many wonderful pictures of your family. I was blessed by knowing both of my Grandmothers--Grandma Gulyas and Grandma Smisko. They were so different from eachother and I loved them both a ton. Grandma Gulyas was always looking for a fun adventure and Grandma Smisko was neat as a pin and loved keeping house. I have such fond memories of them. Thanks for bringing them to mind today.
